Experience
I have extensive experience in counselling and psychotherapy. I have helped countless clients regain self-confidence, healthy behaviours, self-esteem, and a deep understanding of the self. I engaged in extensive trauma training, having been trained directly by Dr. Gabor Mate and Dr. Patrick Carnes. I have also undergone rigorous training in several evidenced-based therapeutic models, including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT) to help individuals regain mastery in emotional regulation, stress management, mindfulness, and interpersonal skills. I am certified in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing therapy (EMDR), which is recommended by the World Health Organization (WHO) for successful treatment of psychological trauma. I am also a Certified Sex Addiction Therapist, receiving training from some of the top addiction experts in the world. I am an active member within the International Institute for Trauma and Addiction Professionals (IITAP). IITAP delivers cutting edge mental health training, research, and supervision by some of the most esteemed professionals in the field of mental health. I also have experience counselling diverse populations and cultures, so I am able to understand how each person’s problems are unique. and I pride myself in my ability to develop a personalized treatment plan to help clients grow and heal.
I am trained in a specific CBT model called AFFIRM, designed by Dr. Shelley Craig at the University of Toronto to help individuals within the 2SLGBTQI+ community manage mental health struggles. Using this knowledge, I helped develop and facilitate a specific 2SLGBTQI+ inpatient addiction program, while facilitating webinars that focus on experiences unique to the 2SLGBTQI+ community in recovery.
